A new study says one part of the human brain may become smaller as aresult of a condition known as jet lag．Jet lag results from flying longdistances in an airplane．People with jet lag may feel extremely tired forseveral days．They may also have problems thinking clearly andremembering．
Recently a researcher at the University of Bristol in Britain reported thefindings of his jet lag study, which involved twenty young women whoworked for international airlines．They had served passengers on airplanes
for five years．These flight attendants flew across many countries and atleast seven time zones．In the study, the flight attendants had differentamounts of time to recover from jet lag．Half the women spent five days orfewer in their home areas between long flights．The other half spent morethan fourteen days in their home areas．
The researcher took some saliva（唾液） from the women’s mouths tomeasure levels of a hormone （荷尔蒙） that increases during stress．Hetested them to see if they could remember where black spots appeared on acomputer screen．And he took pictures of their brains to measure the size ofthe brain’s temporal lobes （脑叶）．

Too often we accuse others of not listening, pretending that weourselves are faultless, yet in our hearts we know that many of the mistakeswe make come about because we haven’t listened carefully enough．We getthings wrong because we haven’t listened carefully enough．We get thingswrong because we haven’t quite understood what someone meant when theywere talking to us．Anyone who has ever taken the minutes of a longmeeting will know how hard it is to remember---despite the benefit of notes---exactly what everyone said．But success depends on getting things right---and that means listening．

I don’t ever want to talk about being a woman scientist again．Therewas a time in my life when people asked constantly for stories about what it’slike to work in a field dominated（支配） by men．I was never very good attelling those stories because truthfully I never found them interesting．WhatI do find interesting is the origin of the universe, the shape of space-time andthe nature of black holes．

Motorists over the age of 75 face compulsory tests of their eyesight andability to drive under proposals being considered by ministers．
The biggest overhaul of motoring law in a generation could also lead toall drivers having to give assurances of their fitness to get behind the wheelevery 10 years．

I am Li Ming of Senior Three, Guangming Middle School．I amwriting to tell you about some symptoms of anxiety among us students beforeexams．
Most of us feel nervous whenever we’re taking an important exam．Some will feel dizzy or tired, some will suffer from lack of sleep, and somewill lose their appetite．In fact, all these symptoms have terrible effects onour exams and we are all eager to get rid of them．
First of all, in my opinion, it’s important for us to have a right attitudetowards exams．They are only a means of checking how we are gettingalong with our studies, so there is no need to worry too much about theresults．Study hard every day and make careful plans for every exam．Inthis way we can avoid suffering from the pressure of exams．
Besides, enough sleep can make us energetic and enable us to performwell in an exam．Therefore, during the period of exams, we should not stayup too late．We can also try a warm bath or a cup of warm milk before goingto bed．They might help us to have a sound sleep．
（We’d better go out for a walk or do some outdoor exercises beforeand during an exam so that we can keep ourselves relaxed and thenconcentrate ourselves on exams．）
